meetup for mums

Come and meet other local mums for friendship and support!

Mairead Murphy a lactation consultant will be available this week, 27/2/14  to answer any general questions you might have about breastfeeding.  Read more about Mairead Murphy here.

The group is breast and bottle feeding-friendly and is a safe, comfortable space for you to enjoy being with your baby and being out meeting people too. It is open for mums with babies under 9 months, so you are all at the same stage.

There will be a €3 admission charge to cover the rent of the room, and that will include biscuits.

I will run the coffee morning for a month to see if there is demand for it. If you have any friends who might be interested, please share this event.

Once a month I will open the group up to mums of older children also, and we will have a sling meet in association with babywearing ireland. This will be a coffee morning as usual, but I will have my slings with me for demonstrations and advice.

Baby Massage Classes in Castleknock 10/2/14

Spend quality time with your baby learning how to give your baby a massage, and meet other local mums for friendship and support.

I will teach you strokes that are safe and appropriate for you to massage your baby, so that you can enjoy it as a regular activity at home.

The massage class which I teach was developed by Vimala McClure who is the founder of the International Association of Infant Massage and is taught all over the world.

You can be sure that you are receiving a quality class as I am accredited by the International Association of Infant Massage and am a member of Baby Massage Ireland. This also means that you can claim back up to €100 off the course cost from your insurance company.

I have a first class degree in psychology and philosophy and a masters in womens’ studies which along with qualifications in counselling skills, first aid, teaching and over 13 years of experience teaching adults means that I am well placed to teach the course.

As a sling consultant I offer help at the end of the class if you are considering getting a baby carrier or sling.

Sling and Dance Fitness Courses

The sling and dance fitness classes are post-natal exercise classes for mums.  Babies enjoy the music and movement in a sling.  Many babies fall asleep during the class.

Here are some of the benefits for mum:

  1. Lose baby weight.
  2. Regain fitness.
  3. Bond with your baby.
  4. Meet other mums.  We generally have a coffee afterwards at the venue.
  5. Enjoy a dance and a bit of a laugh!

Here are some of the benefits for baby:

  1. The movement is relaxing for baby.  Many babies fall asleep during the class.
  2. The movement stimulates babies’ vestibular system.  This is important for the development of balance, posture and movement.
  3. The movement stimulates babies’ muscular-skeletal system.  This helps develop muscle tone.
  4. The music gives babies the opportunity to develop a sense of rhythm.  This helps language development.
  5. Babies love being close to mum, so they enjoy the class too.

You do not need to bring your own baby sling as we have plenty to borrow.  Older children are welcome to come along and play at the side of the room.  More information about sling and dance classes.   http://activemum.ie/whats-on/sling-dance/
